Pima Elementary PTO Board Meeting – October 5, 2011

The meeting was opened at 9:00am by Kami Whisler, President. All Board members present. Also in attendance were Ms. Hudson-Gardner, Ms. Jewett, Calvin Lowrie, Jenny Lowrie, Barbara Perleberg, and Joyce Casalena

Computer Lab Update

Computer Lab is up and running!!!

Read and Feed – Wednesday, October 5^th

Fresh and Easy Shopping Night - Thursday, October 6^th 4-8pm – volunteers secured.

Picture Day – Friday, October 7^th

Fundraising Updates

Entertainment Books – Ms. Whisler and possibly Ms. Casalena scheduled to meet with representative Thursday morning. Close to 300 books are not accounted for. Ms. Whisler reported that she has received poor customer service with little to no guidance (questions left unanswered, phone calls not returned, difficulty with prize distribution. . . ).

Great American – Totaling orders after meeting. Some ducks still to be distributed. Illusionist Assemblies scheduled for Wednesday, October 26- two assemblies 1:15 and 2:15pm.

AR (Accelerated Reading) Parties

Book marks have been ordered for students who reached their AR goals this first quarter. Ice cream also ordered for distribution on Thursday, October 20^th and Friday, October 21^st.

Coronado 50^th Fun Run

CHS 50^th Anniversary Fun Run scheduled for Saturday, October 22^nd 8am-12pm. This is the only Fun Run this school year. Pima agreed to support CHS and collaborate with them rather than hold a separate Fun Run in the spring. Flyers will go out Monday after the break and even will be included in PTO email to families and forwarded to Pima staff. Mr. Hedrick has created a video that is currently on the Pima webpage to promote the Fun Run – other schools to follow. There will be a prize for the school with the most participants.

Blue Ribbon Committee

Chairman – Calvin Lowrie

PTO approved a budget of $25/staff for recognition/appreciation gifts

Committee has discussed possible items tote, tumbler, lanyard and a “Blue Ribbon” shirt available for purchase. Pricing on the items is being done. The goal of the committee is to order minimum amounts of the individual gifts and sell the additional items to cover the costs of the overall purchase. Mrs. Hudson-Gardner recommended talking to the student council and see if they are willing to contribute to the teacher “gifts.” The PTO would cover costs related to the school i.e. banner, plaques etc. Topic tabled - further discussion to take place at the next committee meeting.

Other Business

Angel Karam PTO board member and Pima parent was nominated for the Disney Volunteer Program for her volunteer work with Disney and Pima. Ms. Karam was chosen as one of two recipients of the President Volunteer Service Award. The award included a $1,000 donation to Pima PTO on her behalf as well as a wonderful letter from President Obama, Certificate from the Disney Company, and lapel pin. Yay Ms. Karam!!!!!

School Nurse – Suzanne Snodderly is Pima’s new nurse for the remainder of the school year. The nurse expressed concern of short supply of children’s underwear and socks in the larger sizes. The board approved purchase of items.
